Workbook 1: Legislation.

1 Define the various Acts and describe their application. Describe the functions of the applicable role-players.


2 Document your understanding of the legislative terms


3 Draw flow charts to represent a road map for provincial legislation


4 Collect relevant permit application forms, and describe the information these forms need, and the route certain of these forms follow. Determine which permits your facility should carry and why these apply.


5 Define the history and role of CITES. Explain aspects of CITES permits


6 Determine the practical requirements of physical animal security and explain the ethics to securing the facilities before issuing a permit. Choose two species in your facility and show the time-line and process by which the facility was made ready according to the applicable requirements.


7 Describe the permit system and relevant elements such as animal transportation, sale and donation. Include other elements that are of relevance to your facility.


8 Research a representative each of 1) ordinary game; 2) protected game and 3) specially protected game, in terms of which interests should be protected before issuing a permit, e.g. economic and cultural importance.
